I love reading online, on my tablet or even on my cell phone but I think we all can agree that there’s nothing quite like paper. The smell of it, the feel of it on your finger tips and the sound each turn of a page makes. Ah… true bliss. Therefore, not too long after the birth of Tea End Blog itself, I created a Series entirely dedicated to the written word in hard-copy form; the Series is entitled, Long Live Paper.
In this article, you will find my magazine and journal subscriptions for 2017, the purpose of each* and why I chose them for Tea End Blog. I decided to start sharing this list with you so that you can anticipate my post topics under the Series: Long Live Paper.

*the purpose of each magazine was derived from each magazine's/journal's Wiki page.
SUNSET MAGAZINE
THE PURPOSE | Sunset is a lifestyle magazine in the United States that focuses on homes, cooking, gardening and travel, with a focus almost exclusively on the Western United States.
WHY TEA END BLOG? | A lot of my life surrounds tea and books. If I am not sipping tea and reading books, then I am reading books and sipping tea. However, even a tea sipping bookworm likes to garden and cook, or travel (to find more tea and books, lol). I chose to subscribe to this magazine for these very reasons.
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
THE PURPOSE | The Wall Street Journal is a business-focused, English-language international newspaper based in New York City published in broadsheet format. The Wall Street Journal is the largest newspaper in the United States by circulation and has won 93 Pulitzer Prizes through 2015. The Journal derives its name from Wall Street in the heart of the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. The Journal has been printed continuously since its inception on July 8, 1889.
WHY TEA END BLOG? | If you can’t figure out why I, a blogger of tea and literature, a small business owner and a lover of all things paper would want to subscribe to The Wall Street Journal then maybe you need to revisit the lesson of context clues (lol). The Wall Street Journal is extremely informational, entertaining and I have always learned something new when reading it. Plus, who doesn’t like to sip their tea and finger through a newspaper first thing in the morning…
MONEY MAGAZINE
THE PURPOSE | Money is a magazine that is published in Time Inc. Its first issue was published October 1972 and its articles cover the gamut of personal finance topics ranging from investing, saving, retirement and taxes to family finance issues like paying for college, credit, career and home improvement. It is well known for its annual list of “America’s Best Places to Live”.
WHY TEA END BLOG? | As much as I’d rather sip tea and have my nose in a book 24/7, I do realize that a true tea sipping bookworm would also want to be on-top of her finances. I am no advocate for “getting rich at all costs” or harboring a love for money. However, I do believe that a proper and balanced knowledge of money can lead to over-all success and less stress. I subscribed to Money so that I can handle my own personal expenses better, manage the funds that you donate to Tea End Blog more efficiently and share this knowledge with you.
HEALTH MAGAZINE
THE PURPOSE | Health, formerly known as In Health, is an American Magazine focused on women’s health. The magazines topics range from diet to dealing with life issues such as relationships and stress. Since 1999, Health has published its annual beauty awards, highlighting top products in categories like skincare. It occasionally features cover stories on celebrities.
WHY TEA END BLOG? | Most of us tea sippers are conscious of our health. I think I can speak for the whole of us when I say that we want to be as healthy as we possibly can and reduce the stress in our lives. I subscribed to Health Magazine because in it there are useful tips on how to do just that. You best believe that I will share them with you so that we can all keep sipping happily (and healthily) ever after!
SELF MAGAZINE
THE PURPOSE | Self is an American magazine for women that specializes in health, wellness, beauty, and style. A woman by the name of Phyllis Starr Wilson founded Self magazine and in her opening remarks in the first issue, Wilson wrote the following to the readers:
“An extraordinary spirit and energy are emerging in women today. Fitness is the fuel. We have acquired a strong appetite for the full experience of life – the exhilaration of the outdoors, the challenge and success of professional work, the honest enjoyment of sex. Self will be a guide to the vitality we need to do all the things we want to do.”
WHY TEA END BLOG? | Self magazine is for women who aspire to do more in their lives. The magazine is supposed to encourage and incite to positivity and self-awareness for women. I am all for that! I am sure that the contents in Self magazine will help me discover myself further which can only ameliorate my writing and the content that I share here on Tea End Blog.
STYLEWATCH MAGAZINE
THE PURPOSE | StyleWatch magazine is an off-chute of People magazine. In 2002, People introduced StyleWatch, a title focusing on celebrity style, fashion and beauty – a newsstand extension of its StyleWatch column. Due to its success, the frequency of People StyleWatch was increased to 10 times per year in 2007.
WHY TEA END BLOG? | I'm going to be honest…I have no idea why I chose this magazine. Perhaps it's because it is new, and I like new things as they allow me to see what healthy growth looks like. I enjoy fashion and looking nice but at home I am the least bit of fashionable, unless you consider knee high socks, a high bun attempt, spectacles and an over-sized hoodie with a book in my face and tea on my lap as fashionable. No? I didn't think so. Perhaps StyleWatch will help us tea sipping bookworms to stay fashionable even in the comfort of our homes.
BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS MAGAZINE
THE PURPOSE | Better Homes and Gardens is the fourth best-selling magazine in the United States. The magazine focuses on interests regarding homes, cooking, gardening, crafts, healthy living, decoration, and entertaining. Better Homes and Gardens is one of the “Seven Sisters”, a group of women’s service magazines.
WHY TEA END BLOG? | Decorating, YES. Crafting, YES. Gardening, YES (even though I don’t have a green thumb). Entertaining, YES. I love these things and all of these things make up the beautiful life of a tea sipping bookworm! How would we read comfortably without that perfectly decorated reading nook? Or perhaps how would we sip happily without the herbs from our garden? Better Homes and Gardens will help us sip happily ever after and much more!
