Recently, a representative from PIQUE, a new tea company, contacted me via email and asked if I wanted to taste PIQUE tea crystals and tell my fellow tea sipping bookworms what I thought of them. You know how I feel about tea, but free tea though...tastes so much better, so I said yes! a little about PIQUE
PIQUE tea company was founded by Simon Cheng, an entrepreneur who has enjoyed traditional tea sipping since his youngster years growing up in Hong Kong. During his travels to tea producing regions he discovered a 1,300 year old tradition of extracting all the healthy stuff from tea and condensing it into a powder. Seeing how this would be practical for modern living, Cheng began his years long journey of collaboration with leading tea masters, farmers and producers to create the PIQUE tea crystals that I am tasting today.
You can find out more about PIQUE and Simon Cheng by visiting PIQUE.com. Take a little time also to see the process of making PIQUE tea crystals; it's quite interesting!

THE HUE

As an avid tea sipper, I must admit that I was a bit worried about the quality of PIQUE tea crystals. How would the tea look once brewed? Would it be water-y or placid? Would it keep its liveliness?
I was pleasantly surprised to see that PIQUE tea crystals dissolved beautifully in hot or cold water and the hues were vibrant! In fact, the hue of each tea properly reflected what the tea's color would be if it had been steeped directly from the leaf itself.
THE SCENT
Artificial flavoring has unfortunately become a main ingredient in many flavored teas. I am very weary about teas that supposedly taste like raspberries or caramel considering that the process for extracting these flavors and placing them in tea is rarely described or explained.
PIQUE tea crystals are 100% organic and contain no artificial flavors or sweeteners. What is more, PIQUE puts their sippers at ease by explaining how the tea crystals are made from organic loose leaf tea.
THE SIP

All of the teas in the Organic Tea Sampler Variety Pack (Mint Sencha Green, Sencha Green, Earl Grey, Jasmine, English Breakfast) are teas that I would normally sip with 2 teaspoons of honey, so I am a bit biased when it comes to how I feel the teas taste without honey.
I enjoyed Earl Grey without honey but all of the teas in my opinion need to be sweetened to really make the sip pleasant and smooth. If I were to place them in order from most to least preferred, their order would be: Earl Grey, Mint Sencha Green, Jasmine, Sencha Green, English Breakfast. Also, just as a side note, you will want to make sure that the crystals are blended entirely before sipping or else you could taste their graininess.
THE EFFECT
PIQUE tea crystals made me very happy! Quality and organic tea that I can just throw in my purse or back pocket! I can have tea anytime and anywhere, all I need is hot or cold water! As a true tea sipper, I could never entirely do away with my infusers, tea pots and traditional steeping methods of tea making, but I am glad that tea has been introduced to the future by "the new tea people" at PIQUE.
